5 Health Benefits of Kombucha

We are strong advocates of the mighty Kombucha and have witnessed first hand the benefits of drinking this delicious elixir on a daily basis.

Pronounced "kahm-boo-chah" it's a nutrient dense fermented tea which has been enjoyed for its tremendous health giving benefits for over 2,000 years.  Carrying many of the nutritious properties of green tea, Kombucha is created by fermenting tea using a "symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast" (also known and affectionately termed as a SCOBY).

Kombucha is an incredible source of antioxidants, vitamins, probiotics and health boosting enzymes which make it beneficial in a wide range of different ways - from lowering cholesterol levels to promoting gut health and balance.

Here are some of the key benefits of drinking Kombucha:

  1. Detoxification

The detoxifying capacity of kombucha is impressive. Kombucha is jam packed with the enzymes and bacterial acids that your body naturally produces in order to detoxify itself.  This means that it reduces the detoxification burden that is placed on your liver, by reducing the pancreatic load - meaning a quicker and more efficient detoxification process.

  1. Immune Health

The antioxidants and vitamin C present in kombucha help to protect against a wide range of degenerative conditions including cell damage, cancers, inflammation as well as boosting and improving overall immunity and disease fighting ability.

Kombucha is also very high in glucaric acid.  Research has shown that glucaric acid helps to prevent cancer cells from forming and developing.  The powerful probiotics found in kombucha also play a key role in the general support of the immune system.

  1. Improved digestion

Probiotic bacteria and acids produced during the fermentation process of Kombucha are incredibly beneficial for a healthy gut.  These probiotic bacteria can improve many aspects of health, including digestion and inflammation. Kombucha contains high levels of beneficial acids and enzymes which are also helpful in healing heartburn, leaky gut and stomach ulcers.

Kombucha probiotics prevent candida yeast from overpopulating within the gut by restoring balance to the digestive system with a formidable presence of good bacteria.

  1. Overall Energy

Kombucha is renowned as an energising tonic - largely attributed to the presence of iron and B vitamins, which stimulate the tissues. increase alertness and improve oxygen supply.

  1. Collagen Preservation

Kombucha can help to repair, heal and prevent joint damage due to the fact that its acids support the preservation of collagen in the body - which is brilliant for assisting with arthritic discomfort and the general strengthening of the skin tissues (keeping wrinkles at bay!)
